What I Learned from Doing a Kindle Countdown Deal

Last week, between the dates of 14th June and 21st of June, I decided to do a Kindle Countdown Deal for my book – DON’T LIE. I’d been relatively happy with my book sales, but hoped that a Countdown Deal might bring in a few new readers.

Here’s what I did…

First, I announced the Countdown Deal on my social media – Facebook and Instagram. This meant that anybody already following me, who was umming and ahhing about buying the book might take the plunge while it was on sale for 99p (or $0.99), instead of the usual price of £2.99. I had a few sales, but nothing major. I wrote in a FB group full of British horror authors (one of my favourite places on the internet) if anybody had any advice. I was encouraged to contact the admin from the Books of Horror Facebook group to ask if I could post it there – there’s a fairly strict policy about self-advertising, but the admin very kindly allowed me to post the deal in the group because I’m very active on there.

Needless to say, THIS WORKED.

I wrote my little post and put *ADMIN APPROVED* at the top, and it blew up. Of course, ‘blowing up’ is all relative. As a fairly new indie author, I got more sales over that week than I anticipated, and loads more Kindle Unlimited reads. But for another author, this might not have been a huge deal. For me, it was everything!

The moral of my story…

Kindle Countdown Deals work – as long as you have a way to direct potential buyers to them (or you’re already a big name). Without that, from my experience, they’re not very useful.

What are your experiences with these countdown deals?

Do you have any success stories or tips?

I’d love to hear about your experiences.

As always, wishing you love and books that make your heart skip a beat,

Sarah Jules
