As each year comes to a close, I like to reflect on what I’ve achieved each year. It can be easy to get sucked into the comparison mindset, or the ‘I haven’t done enough’ mindset. The latter half of this year was a tough one for me, personally, and I’m incredibly thankful that my job allowed me to take a step back, heal, and get my mental health under control.

You may or may not know that my actual ‘real life’ job, outside of writing horror books, is freelancing. I’ve been a freelance writer and editor for about seven years now – and this is what my 2024 as a freelancer looked like.*

This year I completed…

– 6 copy-edits (5 fiction, 1 non-fiction).
– 6 developmental edits (3 fiction, 3 non-fiction).
– 2 ghostwrites (with 4 ongoing).

I worked primarily through Fiverr Pro – which is the professional side of Fiverr. Fiverr has a bad rep, if we’re being completely honest, but the freelancers on Fiverr Pro are vetted and have to meet stringent criteria. If you’re looking for a freelancer, I highly suggest checking out Fiverr Pro.

I still haven’t quite figured out my work/life balance yet, but I’m working on that. One of my main goals for 2025 is to find a way to manage my workload better and achieve a decent(ish) work/life balance.

I am still in love with my job. I often have to pinch myself that I stumbled into freelancing when I did.

Thank you to all of my amazing clients, past and present, for allowing me the privilege to work on your manuscripts.

My clients place a lot of trust in me to support them to showcase their manuscript in the best possible light, while also maintaining their own unique voice. Not to be dramatic, but it is an absolute honour to be trusted in this way.
