It is my opinion that in order to be a good writer, you have to be an avid reader. You can’t have one without the other. If you find a ghostwriter, content writer or editor who doesn’t love reading, then my advice to you is to run for the hills as quickly as your legs can carry you! As a freelance ghostwriter, my entire life revolves around books, whether that be reading them, writing them or editing them.
My nose is always buried in a book! No, I’m not being hyperbolic I’m afraid. I think that my love for the written word is what makes me bloody good at my job (if I do say so myself). When you hire a ghostwriter, I always think that a good question to ask is what books they like to read themselves. Are they into romance novels, thrillers, non-fiction? This will give you a good idea of their niche.
Of course, most ghostwriters work outside of their own niche too. In order to make a living out of this game, we do have to write outside of our niches from time to time. If you can find a content writer who can branch out and write whatever you like and turn your ideas into a work of art, then you’ve found one worth sticking with. (Me! Hint, hint!)
I love that my job allows me to be submerged in the world of reading and writing all day long! Whether I’m ghostwriting fiction books, writing blog posts and long-form articles, or editing your manuscript, I can assure you that my heart and soul is in it. Each writing project is like a baby that you have to nurture into maturity and I thrive on being part of that journey.
Did I mention that I’m a huge book nerd? As a UK ghostwriter for hire, I have to keep up to date with the latest releases and trends in the market. It might sound like a chore but my God do I love it! As a result of my job, I read new releases from across all genres, although I have to admit I’m a sucker for a young adult novel or a dystopian book series (I’m looking at you, The Lunar Chronicles).
If your writer is not a reader… RUN! This has been a public service announcement on behalf of UK freelance writers and ghostwriters.
Wishing you love and books that make your heart skip a beat,
Sarah Jules x
